Project Overview: The parking lot of United Healthcare Services' Pittsburgh office was showing its age. It was deteriorating, had issues with water drainage, and light poles and bases needed repaired. In addition, United Healthcare Services out grew their existing space and needed to add additional parking to handle their growth. Sciarretti Site Development & Paving Company provided the client a complete, solution that met their budget and needs.
Work Completed: We worked side by side with the client and the engineering firm to address the issues related to this project. Water control was a major issue with this project and Sciarretti Site Development & Paving Company assisted the engineering firm in tackling the drainage issue. The other major issue was the United Healthcare parking lot was filled to capacity during working hours. We accommodated the client's need and worked after hours and on weekends to complete the work. By providing the client a one stop solution we were able to develop a work plan that hit the completion date without disrupting operations.
Sciarretti Site Development & Paving Company completed the following:
Upper & Lower Parking Lots Asphalt Work
- Installed 23,590 sq. yd. of asphalt
- Mill damaged areas, keyways and areas of grade conflict, remove millings to designated area on site

Clean with power broom
- Install tack coat for asphalt adhesion
- Install 2” ID-2 binder compacted
- Install 1” ID-2 wearing compacted

Seal joints and edges with hot rubberized tar
- Saw cut asphalt around catch basin and manhole frames with minimum 2” around perimeter
- Excavate around all inlets to raise and adjust inlets 3”- 6” with masonry brick, install weep holes at each
- Backfill with 2B stone
- Replace complete inlet at garage with 2’ x 4’ inlet
- Install two new 2’ x 4’ tops, fabricate new 3/8” angle frame and bolt to drain trough to elevate approximately 3” bolt to existing
- Raise manhole frames by approximately 3”. Saw cut asphalt
- Excavate and install three under-drains angular across lower lot at 250’ x 2’ x 16” deep
- Install 1,185 L.F 4” perf. Pipe and back fill with 2B stone

Excavate 2’ x 16” x 935’ install under-drain and backfill with 2B stone
- Patch all areas with 2” ID-2 binder compacted
- Line stripe and decal lots for parking areas
- Includes the re-building of catch basins and installing of 1,185 LF of French drain
- Includes the removal of the broken concrete pad near loading dock and paving over with asphalt consistent with balance of spec
- Curb overlayment

Additional Parking Lot

Strip grass and topsoil from an area of 240’ x 45’
- Cut keyways in areas that require widening for parking lot footprint
- Excavate for a pavement notch approximately 1’ in depth in an area of 240’ x 42’ and compact
- Install 8” base material furnished by Sciarretti Asphalt Paving Co.
- Install 2” ID-2 binder compacted

- Install concrete wheel stops approximately 25 each
- Layout and line stripe

Provide and install new 30’ aluminum light pole with 2-cobra style heads
